Parents of 9th and 10th Grade Students

Parents and students, graduation is just around the corner. Please take a moment to view our informative video on planning for college.

Gifted Testing

Gifted testing will take place at Cox High School on Dec. 1. If you are new to VBCPS and are interested in being tested, please contact Mrs. Roberson at Lydia.roberson@vbschools.com , about how to begin the new on-line gifted referral process. All forms are to be completed online and must be returned no later than November 13.  See the attached letter with more detailed information about the process and how to complete the online application.  See the link for details on how tom complete the application. Summer Residential Governor's Schools - Nominations Are Now Being Accepted!

Nominations are now being accepted!!!
Summer Residential Governor’s Schools provide gifted high school sophomores and juniors with intensive educational experiences in visual & performing arts; agriculture; humanities; mathematics, science & technology; medicine & health science; mentorships in marine science and engineering.
Each Summer Residential Governor’s School focuses on one special area of interest.  Students live on a college or university campus for up to 5 weeks each summer. During this time, students are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, individual and group projects and performances, and seminars with noted scholars, visiting artists, and other professionals.  In the two mentorships, students are selected to work side-by-side with research scientists, physicians, and a variety of other professionals. A director and a student-life staff provide supervision of students 24 hours a day, throughout the program. The Foreign Language Academies offer experiences designed to expand global awareness, multi-cultural understanding and international education.  Three Full Immersion Academies in French, German, and Spanish and Two Partial Immersion Academies in Latin and Japanese provide in-depth opportunities.  Students interested in the Foreign Language Academies should contact their individual World Language teachers or the World Languages Department Chair, Mrs. Sherrie Hendrix about the application process.

Virginia Earth System Science Course

The NASA’s Virginia Space Grant Consortium’s Virginia Earth System Science (VESSS) course is offering a great opportunity for 11th and 12th-grade students. They are currently recruiting students to apply for the program. Students can earn 4, FREE transferable college credits in Geology 195 through Thomas Nelson Community College and if they perform well in the course, they will be invited to participate in a Summer Academy hosted by NASA Langley Research Center for no additional cost. 

The course consists of 7 Modules and a final project which runs from December 1, 2017, and concludes April 15, 2018, and follows the template of one APA paper, a quiz, and one data analysis lab per unit. Students are provided online research reference materials and an online master teacher to provide help and grade student progress.

Office 365 Pro Plus Free For All VBCPS Students

More than 68,000 VBCPS students will have free software thanks to a new program from Microsoft, the software development corporation. VBCPS is taking advantage of this initiative, which will provide every student in our school division access to the Office 365 suite at no charge.
