Art: Obstinate. Diaphanous. Grandiose. Modest. Messy. Conclusive. Articulate. Intangible. Emotional. Static. Dynamic. Lumpy. Disconnected. Serendipitous. Euphonious. Cacophonous. Smooth. Whatever you want it to be... |
Wingspan, Frank W. Cox's literary magazine is a medium for expression, available for use by all students. Please explore the site and view some of the work submitted.
If you have any suggestions for this website, or for the magazine in general, you may contact the staff at wingspanonline@gmail.com
Who we are. And who are you?
The leaves rustle. In your heart, in your bones you feel it surging, ready to overflow. Who knows where the feeling comes from? Perhaps it is the way the sunlight filters in through the leaves and imprints itself on her smile. Or even the crash of thunder and biblical downpour of a thunderstorm and the warm blanket that reminds you of home that brings it on. Creativity knows no bounds and has no rules, and that is its magic. We understand that. If you’re here, then perhaps you do too.
Welcome.
Our Purpose
Wingspan is published once a year in the form of a magazine. It is entirely composed of student work, including visual art, literary compositions, photographs, and musical creations. Wingspan is headed by a group of students, dedicated to the task of collecting and editing the work of the student body and sitting, contemplative, under the few remaining Oak trees of the Tidewater area, for long periods of time, pondering the meaning of life and searching for enlightenment while still being home for dinner.
All students currently in grades 9-12 are encouraged to submit their work (that's paintings, drawings, photos, short stories, essays, books, clever Mad-Libs, anything that you have created!!!)
To Contribute
Students can contribute to the magazine by coming to our Wednesday meetings in room 210 at 2:05. We review art submissions every first and third Wednesday of the month and literary and photography submissions every second and fourth. Musical performances are encouraged, but must be scheduled ahead of time.
Parents can contribute to the magazine by encouraging their student to submit their work for extra credit in english and art classes. We understand that all pieces begin as rough drafts, and we hope to help nurture the creative potential of a piece until it is worthy of publication.
Parents are also encouraged to consider becoming a patron. Patron classes range from Bronze to Platinum and all funds go to the publication of the magazine and sponsorship of Wingspan Live.
